ASTRAL DIVE:

A Third Eye Odyssey, Awakening Inner Light at the Threshold of Waking and Dreaming

How is this threshold state, known as hypnagogia, the gateway to seeing light with the third eye?

Imagine the process as a dive into the tranquil depths of your mind.

Just as free divers master the art of deep relaxation, allowing them to hold their breath and explore the underwater world for extended periods, hypnagogic meditation requires a similar harmony of focus and relaxation. As the day fades or you retreat into darkness, your light-sensitive pineal gland gently ushers you toward sleep with melatonin - which is converted serotonin, a key visual neurotransmitter. Within mere minutes, you're at the edge of hypnagogia. Here, the art of the dive is in maintaining relaxation, deep enough to let the vivid patterns of inner light emerge, yet focused enough to stay observant. This balance is your key to opening the third eye — a state where your inner light comes alive - an intelligent light that is you. This state, encompassing the full spectrum from delta to gamma brainwaves, can be sustained for an hour with practice. Dive deep, relax, and let the voyage into your illumination begin.

Is it hard?

No. We all fall asleep, we all dream, and we all experience hypnagogia. I was not trying to open my third eye nor had I ever even thought of anything like that when I started my journey. I was simply trying to understand if the eye generates light on its own. This led to some night time experiments and ultimately to some very simple techniques. In two weeks I had my first methods, and a decade into this I am easily able to dive into hypnagogia in about 15 minutes and usually stay there for about an hour before I fall asleep.

The techniques are this: as you prepare for sleep, stay in a seated-position, black out all light (I use an eye-mask in a dark room), and look for light.

Try the techniques starting with just five minutes a night, then ten, then fifteen. Your mind will know what you are trying to do, and it will reward you. We learn new things all the time. First, intellectually, we understand how to play an instrument or we understand how to free dive. But until we practice, our body does not know how to do it. When you look for light within - any spark at all - you know just as you know when learning something new, that eventually you will get it. Your brain will say, I see you’re looking for inner light, here’s some! And the light will get brighter and the patterns, well, they are often figurative and stunning.

Eventually, during this practice, you will also fall asleep every time, and you likely will not remember what you have seen. This is where the app Astral Dive comes in.

Join the Odyssey

Astral Dive the app allows you to listen to binaural beats while you enter a state of relaxation. Once the soundscape fades, and you hover in hypnagogia, it is key to describe what you see. This observation and narration maintains beta waves even while your delta waves are increasing. This is pineal gland, third eye, twilight zone. You can place the app near your meditation seat or bed and narrate as you finally fall into sleep. In the morning you can review, convert your speech to text and use the word count function to catalog motifs. DALL-E 3 is built into a gallery, where you can prompt for imagery based on what you’ve seen. And while AI images may not clearly mirror what you’ve seen, you can use them as reminders in your logs.

I have extensively catalogued my visions, and due to the nature of this catalog, with its repeated, often geometric and interlaced structures, I believe that the third eye experiences inner light as interwoven layers that are not separated by time or distance. This is essentially holographic, and I personally believe that our universe is holographic and omnisurfacial.*

However, you do not need to subscribe to any theory to practice with Astral Dive. The goal is to provide you with a simple manual to experience inner light yourself, and if you want, to catalog your visions and even share them. There is so much we can learn about vision, light, the entire universe, from hypnagogic meditation. And so I invite you to try Astral Dive Beta, an app I’ve developed to make it easy for you to learn the meditation process and catalog your visions, whatever they may be: phosphenes, dots of light, patterns, figures… The deeper your commitment, the more vibrant and rewarding the visuals.

Astral Dive Beta iOS

As I prepare to launch the app in beta for iOS, I invite curious minds to join. This is your opportunity to experience firsthand the transformative power of hypnagogia, the true third eye.

Explore, Engage, Connect

  • Discover: Dive also into the blog, where we unravel theories of light and consciousness and look at everything through the idea that light is conscious, that we are conscious light. There’s a new world waiting for you to explore and comment on.

  • Participate: Ready to see the universe through a new lens? Join the beta testing community on iOS.* Android is forthcoming.

  • Collaborate: Are you a part of the EEG community, the photonics community or fascinated by the neural correlates of consciousness and light, a pineal gland aficionado? Connect with me on the OpenBCI forum.

CAUTION: Seeing is believing. We have been told we can’t see the atomic, the subatomic or the quantum, the superpositions of energy states, but we can. Astral Dive isn’t going to define what you see, but once you see your inner light, you will believe what you see is something real. For me, it’s revolutionary. Fasten your crown chakra…
